I was playing for a little bit yesterday in Elektro. I was camping out in a building that overlooks the grocery store just waiting for a pack of matches to appear so I could head out into the woods. I was just about to run across the street to another building when I hear TONS of pistol shots and zombie screams up the block. 

I slowly work my way to a window that looks down an alley to the Church where I see SWARMS of zombies running into it. I wait… hear more shots and more zombies run in. I zoom my rifle towards the doorway of the church waiting for players to run out. Maybe I can take one of them out and then the other when he comes to rescue. 

Right then I see THREE players rush out with dozens of zombies on them. They are too fast to hit. I move over to the other side of my apartment and watch all three of them run into the grocery store. I wait for one of them to crouch down to pick up and item. I shoot him in the back… he drops. I pan to the right and headshot his friend before he hears it. The third runs out the back super fast. 

The first player I shot starts to get up and I take him out with a second shot. Firing three shots with my rifle attracts every zombie in a 2 block radius. So I place my gun on the floor and take out my hatchet (Silent one shot weapon)

I kill about 8 zombies until they stop coming. Right as I kill the last zombie I hear footsteps in the grocery store. It’s a bandit trying to loot the players I killed. I put my hatchet away and pick up my rifle. I aim and shoot the bandit in his leg. I hear it break from across the st. He crawls to safety but right before he can I put another shot in his back killing him. 

This of course attracts more zombies. I repeat my method of dropping my rifle, getting out my hatchet and killing zombies. Everyone now and then one gets a hit on me and I’m forced to bandage and eat all my food to get my health back. 

Right after finishing a can of beans I hear footsteps. Not zombie footsteps. I get my rifle and wait while aiming down the hallway. I had placed a free ghillie suit at the end of the hallway as bait. Players can’t resist camo outfits. So I hope one will stop to pick it up and buy me time to shoot them. 

I see the tip of a shoulder maybe as someone stops to get the ghillie suit. But it’s not enough of a target. He equips the suit and starts to walk in when he sees me and runs into a room. 

I have two choices. I can run after him and risk injury OR I can fire my rifle attracting zombies into his room and mine. So I fire 5 shots attracting another 10 zombies. I can hear him wasting all his pistol rounds into them as they pour in. I then charge the room and shoot him dead. 

Right as I’m looting the food he had, I hear someone running up the stairs. I turn and a player has a pistol drawn. He unloads the entire clip into me and I drop dead… He must have been watching the whole thing from across the road…

So I’m playing DayZ with a fresh life after dying. I’m just minding my own business. Found a rifle with a few clips of ammo, some food and a hunting knife. I see a cow running across a road so I take a shot and it drops. I’m walking over to get some steaks off of it when I literally hear an arrow fly by my head. 

I turn and see another player with a crossbow reloading and fires again…I jump left and he misses. He fires two more but I’m moving so much he can’t hit me. I fire my rifle but he’s moving soo much I can’t hit him. 

So this goes on until it seems he’s run out of ammo because he stops shooting. The noise has attracted about 5 zombies who are running all around us as I try to shoot him. I still have plenty of shots left. But I won’t let him make me use them all. 

After a few minutes of this dance I decide to lure him over to a large factory building where I know there are some stairs I can get him to stop on. 

He follows me as I “run away” to the factory. He starts speaking on the mic in a british accent. “Come on… give me some ammo so I can kill you” 

I don’t answer. I just lead him to the factory. Every now and then turning and shooting to acting like I don’t want him to follow. 

Once I get to the Factory I run up the stairs, stop, crouch and aim. He runs up and I shoot him right in the leg. I hear the bone snap and he falls. He starts rolling around to dodge my bullets but my second shot kills him. 

Just then a dude in a Ghillie suit comes running down the stairs and shoots me in the head… Apparently he was already in the factory and was nervous about all the gun shots… .

DayZ Development Blog #8

Looks so cool!

Just had the most intense moment on Dayz. 

A normally hang out in a an apartment complex overlooking a store to loot players with better gear. I was doing my normal thing when I see FOUR guys approach the city. I aim and take one out in one shot in the field. The other three sprint right for me. I peek out the window and watch one go to the other building nearby and the other two come right into my building. 

One comes sneaking up the stairs and I turn around the corner and get him in one shot. He has an AK. So I pick that up and start firing the whole clip at the other guys at the bottom of the steps. I go to pick my rifle back up and its not there. The game deleted it when I picked up the AK… Now all I have is my pistol. 

The friend comes up the steps and I unload a full clip breaking his leg. reload and finish him off. He has a double barreled shotgun. I take that off of him and wait for his friend. 5-10 minutes pass by and I don’t hear much. Im hurt after taking a bullet or two so I look for some canned food to heal up a bit. As I walk near a window I see their friend in the store. All I have is my pistol which is not a great gun for this. So I dont shoot. He turns and sees me in the window and before I can drop he shoots me in the head… .

Other than the GameStop exclusive bonus of ‘Herd Mode‘, we couldn’t find any retailers giving exclusive pre-order DLC for The Walking Dead: Surival Instinct, but we’ll let you know if that changes.

Also of note is that many retailers have shifted their release date of Survival Instinct to March 19th, one week earlier than the official date. We’ve reached out to Activision for confirmation on a possible bump up on the release and we’ll let you know if we hear anything back.
